Anna Filkin

Doctor of Oriental medicine,

Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist, Certified Hatha Yoga teacher.

Anna was born in Ukraine.

Her first passion in life was dance.

When Anna was 6 years old, she started her ballet training in Ukraine and became a professional ballet dancer at the age of 18.

She graduated from Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York and went on to have a successful professional dance career in the US for over 10 years.

Anna’s other calling in life is compassion and healing.

She studied Traditional Chinese Medicine

and graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 2008 as Doctor of Oriental Medicine

and also is Board Certified in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology from the NCCAOM.

Her background in dance enhances her understanding of movement dynamics in relation to muscular-skeletal issues and body energetic.

Anna is a certified Hatha Yoga teacher who went through vigorous training and graduated from

Integral Yoga Institute, NY in 2015 but she has been practicing yoga for over 20 years.

She recently moved from Brooklyn, NY to Shokan, NY with her husband and two wild and fabulous teenage boys leaving the craziness of a big city for the peace and quiet of Catskills.

Her ultimate goal is Harmony and Balance between Mind-Body-Spirit.

Dr. Anna began treating me in 2013.  At the time, I was completely unfamiliar with acupuncture.  I have had a lifetime of gastrointestinal issues, and up until that time, little success in treating my symptoms or eliminating the underlying conditions.  In addition, I’d begun to suffer from the low back and shoulder pain that seems to be an accepted part of getting older.

From my very first visit, I felt a dramatic improvement in my back pain.  Dr. Anna allayed any concerns and fears I had while explaining the underlying principals of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and how it works.  She was also completely open and honest, making sure that I did not expect the overnight elimination of my problems.  As she explained it, by following her lifestyle recommendations and receiving regular treatment, over time I would achieve the results I sought.  Since treatments are usually extremely relaxing and rejuvenating, it wasn’t a hard sell.

I am happy to report that my condition is dramatically improved, and my life significantly better, because of her treatments.  I can’t imagine a life without acupuncture or using anyone other than Dr. Anna.  She establishes a caring, thoughtful relationship with her patients, and never ceases trying to improve their condition.

I’ve know Dr. Anna since 2012.  I can certify that Dr. Anna is the ‘real deal’ -- a gifted healer and a caring individual.

I have recommended many people to her for treatment, and without exception, they have been charmed by her demeanor and her desire to help them.  I have at least one client who has thanked me for ‘saving his life’, courtesy of my referral.

I also have experienced her treatments first hand, and benefitted immensely from them.  In 2013, I developed an abscess on my back, which appeared seemingly out of nowhere, and grew at a rapid pace.  Before seeking ‘harsher’ treatment, I asked Anna if she could help me.  She needled the area, and also prescribed a poltice of natural but powerful ingredients, which I applied every day.  Within a few days the abscess was visibly smaller, and within 2 weeks – as if by magic – had completed disappeared.  Obviously, it wasn’t magic: it was the healing powers of my own body, assisted by Dr. Anna’s knowledge and skill.
